23 November 没事吹水而已
今天上课很累，不过去玩了一下学院的自动贩卖机，60P买了一杯茶，很神奇，虽然有些贵，不过重要的是看看这个机器怎么工作啊，嗯，这里的机器都很神奇，能冲咖啡，茶，还有加糖不加糖，加奶不加奶，还有Extra Sugar和Extra White的，还有蔬菜汤什么的，很好很好，怎么在中国没见这么神奇的东西呢？ 还有最后一个星期的课，然后是Presentation，然后就放假了……第一学期，就这样快结束啦，我没什么奢望，我就期望我的论文能通过就好了。 18 November Birmingham Trip今天去了伯明翰，算是第一次去英格兰南部的城市，坐了差不多3个小时才到。今天去了International Convention Centre, 博物馆和画馆，坐船在运河上走，还有去了Christmas Market，挺不错的……伯明翰的口音不是很好听，正如BBC的一份Poll的结果一样。……While Asian, Liverpool and Birmingham accents were all deemed both unpleasant to listen to and lacking in social status. 17 November 推荐一些书最近有的同学在问研究英语的一些书目,所以我为大家推荐一些学习英语语言的书目： Bauer, L. 1994. Oxford : Oxford University Press 16 November 15th Nov11月15号 今天，Modern English Language的语法Section终于上完了，自己以前不是很喜欢语法，到现在觉得语法还是挺好玩的，至少比在中国上的课要好玩。 语法呢，我们讲了Introduction, Noun Phrases, Verb Phrase and Modality, Clause Elements, Transitivity，如果你们感兴趣可以一起来讨论哈。 结果今天中午碰到个老师，她说昨天你们怎么没去听本科生的课，我们都以为这只是个Optional或者Additional of our module的，结果没想到她那么认真。郁闷……今天上完Dialectology and Sociolinguistics以后我们就去听她的课，本科生看起来很喜欢玩，没想到他们也在学语法，哎……结果大部分讲的我们都学过的啊，Subject, Verb, Object, Adverbial, Complement, Transitive Verbs, Intransitive Verbs……几乎就在讲这些……真不知道她为什么那么认真。我们的结论是：她觉得是个Permission，我们必须去听课，结果误会了，一个很严的老师，有点可怕……我第一个学期的论文已经被她整得我很惨了，还好第二学期跟了个很好的老师…… 13 November HomesicknessActually I don’t know whether I am homesick or not. We discuss the topic of the varieties of English after reading a book named The Stories of English written by David Crystal, a master of English language. Questions raise here is about the concept of Standard English and nonstandard English. English has become a global language people used to communicate. What exactly is a kind of Standard English? Say for example, grammatically do you think these sentences are standard or not? Give it to me. Give me it. Give it me. (Here you can have your ideas). The extract of Crystal is about the use of Standard English and nonstandard English in literature. English is now used widely, what do you think English can gain its status, politically or the language itself? Do you think English would decline (You can also have your ideas here)? The use of nonstandard English in English gives us a point of view of English using. What do you think this phenomenon? Is it good or bad for the use of nonstandard English in literature or in our daily life? Here, I present so many questions. I am going to give you my second topic of discussion in this weekend and actually these questions are going to be included? I am very glad you can give your point of views and share with everyone using this forum. In fact, we had a wonderful discussion in this seminar. Gabriel 05 November 国内好多人感冒哦看到大家的QQ签名，好像很多人感冒了，在奇怪中国的天气难道比这边冷么？觉得不大可能……平时一个月要感冒2次的我，居然来这里快2个月了身体健健康康的，这还真是好事，是不是这里空气很好的缘故？鼻涕也没有，适应水土以后喉咙也不痛了？呵呵……大家要好好照顾身体，我也要健康，过冬了…… 04 November Beamish Museum and Durham11月4号 今天去了Beamish Museum和Durham旅游，Durham的城堡还是哈里波特电影的一个场景，感觉还可以，照了些相片……主要是买了切尔西（Chelsea）的围巾，觉得很幸福…… 02 November 中国人吃蜥蜴?今天下课，我说我回去煮饭吃，一个尼日利亚的同学问我，Do you eat lizard？我在想：这个是什么？意大利面还是什么？后来她说在墙上爬，晕……想起来，应该是壁虎或者蜥蜴吧，天啊？这个怎么吃啊？她问我中国人是不是吃蜥蜴啊，在墙上抓下来就吃？哇……哪里有这样的事啊？我说那也太可怕了吧，是不是旧社会的啊？大伙们，你们吃蜥蜴还是壁虎吗？晕…… 01 November 第一份正式作业11月1号 今天起床打开E-mail，看到Research Methods的作业可以拿了，非常紧张，很怕自己不过。后来看到是个2分，虽然是刚好通过的Satisfactory，上面也划了挺多的，不过已经很开心了，至少通过了。继续努力继续努力……11月开始咯，天越来越冷了，准备过冬…… |
