Dear MA students,

As a follow up to my earlier email, we feel that this is a good time of year to talk about your MA dissertation progress to date.

Firstly, I'd like to ask you all to submit a short report on your dissertation progress to date. This should make reference to the background reading that you've done so far, any hypotheses you formulated and reformulated over the past semester. It should additionally outline any issues encountered and how you went about dealing with them. The report should also outline the material you collected for analysis and describe in brief your methodology for analysis. The report could be accompanied with a potential dissertation structure. The report should be 2 A4 pages in length (single spaced) and should be submitted electronically. I would like you all to email me this document (via attachment) by 4pm next Wednesday, January 24th.

I would also like all MA students and Language staff to have a meeting next Friday, January 26th, to discuss your submissions. This meeting will take place in Clive's office, and will run from 2:30 until 3:30. This would be an excellent opportunity for us all to discuss your progress and share ideas. I would have to stress that all MA students have to attend this meeting.

Dear MA students,

I understand that Clare has sent you all an email asking you to complete and submit a form with an approved dissertation title. This is due next week. Can I urge you all to therefore meet with your supervisors over the next couple of days to confirm your titles and have them sign these forms? This would be a good opportunity to meet and discuss your progress also.

For those of you whose first supervisor has now changed (i.e. Gabriel and Jan), I would urge you to make contact with your NEW first supervisor instead at this stage (for Gabriel, that would be Alison, whereas for Jan, that would be Fiona), or have a joint supervision with both the old and new supervisor to ensure that the transmission is as smooth as possible.

I am also teaching an undergraduate option module in Forensic  Linguistics, which is called: Forensic Approaches to Language Study and am giving 4 lectures/workshops on Mondays from 11-12 in Michael Sadler 03.340. You are very welcome to audit this lecture.

 今天去了曼彻斯特，逛了中国城还有曼联的主场，中午吃了一顿Buffet……可以说是来到英国吃的最好的一顿饭了啊，哈哈……在曼联的商店买了一只很可爱的熊熊……

    新年一直都没有更新空间了，今天去了学院把老师们都见了一遍，然后下个学期毕业论文换了Supervisor……今天收到了Anthea的E-mail……

I'm handing you over to Alison to be your supervisor for Semester II. We'd like to meet you together for the first session. Would it be convenient to meet at 4.30 on Monday 29th January?  This would be in Alison's room.

Before that we would like you give us a brief report (one A4 page, which could be notes or bullet points) giving us an indication of what you have been doing since our last meeting, and let us know what you plan for the next stage of your research. We'd like this to reach us in paper form by 26 January.

Could you let us know if this is OK -- please 'reply all' so that we both see your answer.

MA Students (World Englishes)....

You might find it useful to audit the lectures for the Level 2 undergraduate module, English in Space. These take place (starting 22 January) on Mondays 3-4 (Roger Stevens LT 13) and Thursdays 2-3 (RS LT 14).

There is more information about English in Space in the Nathan Bodington suite for the module, which will be useful to you whether you audit the lectures or not.
